Stitch Fix, once again, satisfies my expectations. My August 2017 fix was a perfect combination of great, relaxed items that are perfect for my lifestyle and tastes.
Have you tried Stitch Fix? If you haven’t, it’s a style service that sends you five items at your choice of frequency based on your style profile. You keep what you want and return the rest. Stitch Fix charges a $20 styling fee but if you keep at least one item from your fix, that $20 is taken off the price of one of the items. If you keep all five items from a fix, you get 25% off the price of your total order.
It’s a great service for women (and men) that hate to shop or just don’t have time. For me, I don’t have great options near me to go shopping so I buy online anyway. With Stitch Fix, my stylist gets to know my style, my needs and she sends me items that she thinks will work for my body and lifestyle.
I continue to be extremely pleased with my stylists and what they have been sending me.
What was in my August Fix:
Kavanaugh Crochet Back Top – Collective Concepts – $58
This top is super cute. Stripes are my favorite pattern by far and the combination of the stripes with the delicate crochet works perfectly. Unfortunately, the fit was just off. I don’t think a different size would help. I felt like the proportions were just off for my body.
Your Takeaway: Even when looking for more relaxed or casual items, look for options that have special or unique details. Maybe it’s jewel embellishments or crochet details like this top. That way, even casual pieces are interesting and make you feel special even when you aren’t dressed up.
Grayson Faux Wrap Maxi Dress – B Collection by Bobeau – $78
I knew before I put this dress on, I was going to love it. The fabric is stretchy and soft and a great weight. While the length is a little long, the shape was crazy flattering on my curvy body and the color is a pretty olive green.
Your Takeaway: Wrap style dresses are universally flattering. They highlight the smallest part of a curvy body (the waist), while giving the illusion of curves for a more straight frame. Maxi dresses are also a great option for the office or weekend; they dress up and down so well. This time of year, it’s great to go for colors that will transition well into early autumn. Think denim jackets and open toe booties.
Carmelli Tie Crochet Neckline Knit Top – Daniel Rainn – $64
This top is super pretty and it fit well. I also thought for a more loose fitting style, it was flattering on my body not making me look way bigger than I am. The downside for me is that I already have a couple white tops in a similar style so for the price, I couldn’t justify another top like this.
Your Takeaway: Peasant tops and tunics like this that don’t have a lot of structure can make a curvy frame look much larger than it is. This is such a popular trend so if you have curves like me, look for an option like this that has a slimmer fit without a lot of “poof”. Also, consider the fabric and how it lays on the body. One like this that has a heavier, knit fabric will lay against the body more than lighter, fluffier fabrics.
Maximillion Embroidered Top – Skies are Blue – $54
I pinned this top late last month so I was pretty thrilled to see it in my fix. The colors are so pretty and the embroidery detail adds such a nice accent to a simple, tank top.
Your Takeaway: Just like the striped top above, when looking for casual or more relaxed styles, seek out pieces that have some kind of unique or special detail or accent. It helps you define your own personal style and keeps even your casual looks interesting.
Billy Distressed Released Hem Skinny Jeans – Liverpool – $88
For the first time ever, I actually requested an item which was a pair of distressed white skinny jeans. My stylist heard me and sent these jeans that also have a raw hem at the bottom. I have another pair of Liverpool jeans and they feel so soft and are incredibly comfortable. I’ve also found that it’s worth spending more on a great pair of jeans.
Your Takeaway: Good, quality denim can be pricey but the key is finding brands that fit well and feel great on you. You’ll find that a great pair of jeans will get worn more making the cost per wear low even in a pricier pair of jeans. Don’t be afraid to splurge on denim when they feel and look amazing! You’ll never regret it.
