Shades of Blue Entry Hall

At Home· Home Decor

3 Sep

Your entry way is the first thing guests see when entering your home. It sets the tone for the rest of your house and gives your guests their first impression. It’s also probably a busy traffic area for you and your family so you not only want it to be pretty but also functional.

Our entryway has been essentially the same for a couple of years now and that’s because it works. I’ve moved a few things around and changed out the accessories based on the season but everything has remained the same…until recently when I swapped out the rug.

With dogs running around, I don’t like to invest a lot of money into expensive and precious rugs because they don’t stay nice (or clean).  I loved the old rug and remember when I bought it, I was so excited because I had obsessed over it for months and waited it out on sale and finally made it mine. It was a big deal for me.  Sadly the years and heavy traffic made it harder and harder to clean and look nice so I decided it was time for an update.

Because the entry is open to the living room, I decided to go with a style that was similar to the large one we have in there.  I didn’t want the same rug but something that played nicely and since B and I love blue, I opted for a cream and navy blue rug in a very similar pattern.  Because the two rugs have a similar pattern but different colors, they work together nicely, but they don’t match.

My only real concern with the new rug was how the pattern of the rug would work with the patterned curtains but I actually like how the patterns layer together.  I also love that they are all blue but different shades so I carried that idea even further with some simple accessories..

I don’t want a lot of clutter here because this space naturally gets overrun with “stuff”.  I pulled out this pretty blue vase to use as an accent on the bookshelf.  It’s the perfect accent.  Everything else in the space is very neutral from the walls to the floors and even the furniture which I think helps balance out all the pattern going on.

The rug was a simple change in the entry but now this space has a whole new feel and we love our entry hall in shades of blue.
