A Master Bedroom should be a place of tranquility and relaxation. It should be a calm, comfortable place to get away from the craziness of the day and be free of clutter to help promote rest.
Our Master Bedroom has been the complete opposite of all those things. It’s been cluttered, cramped and down right anxiety inducing. I struggle with sleep enough as it is so our bedroom really wasn’t doing me any favors. In all fairness our bedroom is small, it’s shaped very weird and for such a small room there are three doors, three large windows and a space hogging radiator which all combined make furniture placement kind of challenging.
I’ve attempted makeovers several times over the years but never got very far before giving up due to lack of time, money or both. Back in July I mentioned wanting to start working on some updates once and for all. I had some ideas and talked to B about doing it in stages to make it more manageable. I even shared some inspiration and started painting over the dark gray walls to brighten things up but never even finished painting the room and then beat myself up every time I went into our bedroom because I left it unfinished.
For me, any full room makeover starts with paint. Since we have lived here, our Master Bedroom has undergone some major color changes. It’s been bright turquoise and dark, purple – gray. I was ready for something light and bright but neutral and calm. I considered Sherwin Williams Sea Salt like I painted in the shop, but decided I wanted something even more neutral than that. After looking at tons of colors, I decided on the same color we used in our Family Room. It’s very light but in different lighting it can look a little blue, green or gray so it clearly has cool undertones. It’s Benjamin Moore Wickham Gray and I love it!
This is one of those colors that goes with any color scheme and would look great throughout an entire house. I tend to prefer cool color palettes so after all the options I considered, it was a perfect choice and with lots of paint left over from the family room, I didn’t have to buy any new paint! It’s also the color I used in our Master Bathroom Makeover this past year.
With the walls freshly painted, the small room already felt fresh and bright. Now it’s ready for more updates!
Next week I’ll be revealing our new bed and sharing some super affordable bed options with you that you wont want to miss!
