Painted concrete Porch Floors – Inspiration for the Beach Cottage Porch

At Home· DIY· Garden & Outdoor· Home Decor· Projects

Concrete porch floors and patios are quite common pretty much everywhere.  Concrete is affordable and durable but if you’ve ever had a concrete porch floor or paito, you probably also know that concrete can stain and discolor if not sealed.

The front porch at the beach cottage is the last major construction renovation project to tackle in phase 1 of our renovations.  While we aren’t ready to dive into this project just yet, we’ve been talking about your design ideas and starting to put our plan together so we are ready to tackle this big task this fall.

For me, the biggest design challenge has been what to do with the concrete floor.  It’s old and stained and while in really good shape, not the most attractive.

While I haven’t entirely ruled out doing some kind of stain, I’d really like to do some kind of painted pattern design but am unsure of the durability of painting concrete.  While the durability is a topic for another day, I’ve been gathering some inspiration for patterned porch floors and today I’ve founded up some of my favorites as inspiration for our beach cottage porch.

I’m in love with this bold, geometric, black and white look from A Beautiful Mess!

This fun star pattern in black and white from Elkins and Company could also lean a little nautical in navy and white. I’m loving the idea of something like this for our Beach House front porch.

Even if we decide to skip the pattern, a fresh coat of paint can go a long way toward freshening up the porch. In love with the before and after from I Should Be Mopping the Floor because the before reminds me a lot of our current porch floor.

A happy medium between an all over pattern and a solid color would be to create a stenciled “rug” like Jen from Jen Woodhouse did. This is not only a great way to add interest without an all over pattern, it’s also a great way to define areas of your porch without using an actual rug.

Sheena from Bean in Love created a softer look by allowing the natural concrete to show through and simply painted the stencil onto the bare concrete. The may not work as well if your concrete is discolored or stained in areas but the look is so beautiful.

Finally, one of my favorites is the beautiful look Becky from Homestead128 created inspired by concrete tiles. Her color combination has been a favorite for a while. Though not our colors, I love the idea of creating a look inspired by cement tiles for the porch.

Hopefully these beautiful, painted concrete porch floors inspire you for a future project. I know they’ve convinced me that I want to add some pattern to our porch floor! I’d love to know if you’ve tried this project or if you have a favorite.
