No matter what your decorating style is, balancing your decor with natural elements is a great way to add warmth and make your home feel more inviting and relaxed. Even if you like the look of painted furniture, adding in natural elements in your accessories can keep the space from feeling sterile and as well as add character.
Our family room has been a work in progress from the day we moved in. We have constantly changed directions but never really “finished” the space. It’s one of those rooms that never really had a solid focus. Since we spend a lot of our time in here, I’ve been feeling like I’ve needed to give this space some attention.
Earlier this summer I updated a piece of art from Holly Lobby and hung it over the couch to help fill the large blank wall. It was the right size but the color against our light walls just fell flat and it looked too bland. I got to thinking about adding something wood to balance the fireplace mantel on the opposite side of the room.
When I found the tobacco baskets at Holly Lobby, I knew that was exactly what I needed. At the same time, I also found two art prints meant to look like vintage flower prints. Together with the tobacco baskets and a simple wreath, I knew I could create something great for our large blank wall.
The result isn’t quite what I’d hoped (the arrangement is too small) but it’s a start to filling in that large, blank wall. Below are some other great accents to help you add some natural touches in our home.
Baskets
Baskets come in all shapes and sizes and are great as pretty storage or just to add warmth and texture to a space. I use one near our front door for tossing shoes, and another in the family room for holding extra pillows and throw blankets. Baskets are a great way to add natural elements in any room in the house!
Candle Sticks
If you are looking for simple, small accents to add warmth to a room or vignette, candle sticks are a great way to do that. I’ve had my eye on these myself to dress up our mantle. These would also be great accents on a night stand, on a hall table or even as decor in a bathroom or kitchen.
Coffee Table
In Family Rooms or Dens, when you have a lot of fabrics going on, it always good to balance that with something more natural. I was drawn to this coffee table because it’s simple and clean and has great color. It would go perfectly with your farmhouse style decor but also in a traditional or modern home as well.
Rug
A natural fiber rug is one of my favorite ways to bring natural elements into a space. This one has some variation in the colors so it’s a little more interesting. I also love that it has a more rustic feel compared to one with fabric edges. A Natural fiber rug goes with every style.
Plants
I’m not good with real plants but even artificial plants can add a little natural element to a sterile or bland space. Even small ones to dress up a shelf goes a long way toward adding a little natural touch to your home.
Whether you are adding small touches of natural elements to your home or going big like a rug or piece of furniture, bringing in natural elements to your space goes a long way toward adding character, interest, texture and balance no matter what your style. I hope this has inspired you to add a little natural touch to your home too!
